Frequently Asked
Answers to common questions
How much down payment do I need?+
It depends on the loan program. Some conventional loans allow as little as 3% down, FHA typically requires 3.5%, and VA and USDA loans may allow 0% down for eligible buyers.
What credit score do I need to buy a house?+
Minimums vary by program. FHA generally starts around 580, conventional around 620, and VA has no set minimum but most lenders look for around 580 to 620.
How long does buying a home take?+
From an accepted offer to closing, most buyers finish in 30 to 60 days. Preparation and home shopping time varies with inventory and personal readiness.
Do I need 20% down to avoid PMI?+
No. 20% is one way to avoid PMI on conventional loans, but many buyers put less down and remove PMI later as equity grows.
Can I buy before selling my current home?+
Yes. Options include bridge financing, HELOCs, contingent offers, or qualifying on both properties. The right path depends on your equity and market.
